How To Come Back To God
Turn, O backsliding children, saith the Lord; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion: And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.
Jeremiah 3:14-15
Some of us may have already accepted Jesus into our heart, but maybe some were lured back into the world through the temptation of the flesh, just life itself, or maybe you know someone that used to serve God and went back into the world. It is not a coincidence you’re reading this today. You’re reading this on purpose because God is married to the backslider.

1. Coming Back Home
Like the Prodigal Son, there may have been seasons where we didn’t fully honor God with what He entrusted to us—whether our time, gifts, or energy. But the beauty of God’s heart is that He welcomes us back with open arms, ready to restore and redeem what we thought was lost. With Him, it’s never too late to return, rebuild, and walk in the fullness of His plan.
2. Stay On Track
And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.
Luke 15:14-15
This shows us how far the Prodigal Son drifted before he recognized his need for something greater. But even in the lowest place, he wasn’t beyond the reach of his Father’s love. What looked like the end was really the beginning of a powerful turning point—one that led to restoration, renewal, and a fresh start.
No matter how far you’ve gone or how empty things may seem, your Father is waiting with open arms. He’s ready to restore, renew, and launch you into a greater purpose. With God, it’s never too late to rise, return, and rejoice.
3. Resist Temptation
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
John 10:10
Jesus came to give us life—abundant, joy-filled, and overflowing with peace. When we walk closely with Him, we’re walking in the fullness of that promise. Instead of giving the enemy any access, we stay rooted in God’s Word, guard our hearts, and keep moving forward in the abundant life Christ freely offers.
4. Know that God Loves You
When the Prodigal Son hit rock bottom he finally came to his senses and knew he had no other place to go except home to his father. He would repent, ask for forgiveness, tell him he is not even worthy to be called his son. He would throw his life at the mercy of his father, and hopefully he will accept him back into his house. As he ventures home he wonders if his father still loves him, will he want me back. He can only see all his mistakes. All the could of and should have of regret flashing before him on that journey.
However, when he arrived home his father received him with open arms.
“But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.’”
Luke 15:22-24
No matter how far you’ve gone or how long you’ve been away, the Father is always ready to welcome you home with open arms and restore you completely. His love never left, His mercy endures forever, and His grace is still efficient for you.
