How To Honor God
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
This scripture was calling in the attributes of the forthcoming Messiah. Words are very powerful; words are everything. The world came into existence through words. The scripture clearly states this truth in Proverbs 18:21 “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
1. Government of the Kingdom
You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
Luke 1:41-33
Simply put, the Kingdom of God is His church that He reigns over. Therefore, out of the church–the house of God–comes His kingdom. When we ponder over becoming successful in life, we have to understand that our success comes together with the kingdom of God.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Matthew 6:33
We make the decision to live righteous lives, put the kingdom of God first, then we can walk into this promise above, and God will give us everything we could ever need. He will give us the desires of our heart, whatever that may be. This is a partnership in which we have our part. We honor and serve God to our best ability, in His house (His kingdom), and whatever God needs us to do, we walk in obedience and do it.
2. Serving In The House of God
And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
Matthew 16:18
He is talking about building His church (His kingdom). We put His church first by serving in whatever capacity essential for maintenance and building. This can be from a janitor position to the pulpit and everything in between. God’s house has numerous functions required to thrive, grow, and to continue to even exist. Whatever church we are a part of, this is where we seek after His kingdom. This is where we honor God
3. Discovering Our Purpose
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Joshua 1:8
It is in the house of God we apprehend and understand the ways of His kingdom. We learn how vital being in His presence is, we study, meditate, and do according to His Word (“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Psalm 119:105); where we harness and utilize the many spiritual gifts He bestows upon us assisting us in walking in victory. We walk on this faith journey while we seek His kingdom (His house) and He will provide our every need.
4. The Great Commission our Mission
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 16:19-20
We make God and His house a priority in our life. It was in His house we found freedom from sin. Where He put us back together after the enemy pulled us apart. We must strive to keep His house first in our life and not allow the busyness of the world to slowly pull us away from our obedience to God’s house. Nothing in the world changed our life like God changed our life. No other place transformed our mind and our heart like the house of God. If we remember that broken place we came from, remember what God has done for us, we should have compassion for the lost and the hurting–The Great Commission!
