How To Break Free from Fear and Anxiety

How To Break Free from Fear and Anxiety

Anxiety. Society embraces this as if it is just a part of life. Although there is a healthy level of pressure we all experience in our day-to-day schedules (meeting deadlines, a near-accident on the road), there is also an unhealthy attitude of anxiety we will deal with now.

1. The Spirit of Fear

We unknowingly and flippantly proclaim I have anxiety”: that trendy attitude society has embraced.  However, when we proclaim those words we open ourselves to a demonic spirit of fear.  That fear can and will take hold of us, if we allow it to.  This spirit is so powerful it can keep us from going outside of our house.  If we allow the spirit of fear to enter, we must renounce it, get it out of our life, out of our homes, and begin focusing on God’s Word.

The spirit of fear is dangerous.  It starts with stress and anxiety, and when we begin confessing it, it opens the door to the spirit of fear.  Before we know it, we can be held captive by this spirit and it will wreak havoc in our life.  We won’t even be able to function normally.  It will steal our joy, happiness, and every good thing in our life.

2. The Spirit of Faith (Belief)

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30

God does not want us to run around in our life aimlessly, without direction, like a chicken with its head cut off.  God wants us to come to Him with every concern, need, worry, and care. He wants us to believe in His word, His love for us, and that He will provide for us. God knows we will face challenges in this life, but He wants us to come to Him for help.  It is vitally important we learn to find rest in our soul, in His promises, and in His love.

3. Conquering Self

Christianity was never meant to be just about us.  God wants to give us blessings so we can be a blessing to others.  He wants to bring us salvation so we can bring salvation to others.  He also wants us to receive forgiveness so that we can walk in forgiveness.  But we must conquer self so we can be useful to others.

Anxiety, stress, worry, and fear are actually a form of pride and self-preservation.  If we don’t learn to renounce these dangerous attitudes, we will end up never fulfilling our purpose which will bring more fear into our life.  It then becomes a vicious and dangerous cycle.  We have to break and conquer that spirit of fear now, then we can help others conquer it.  The enemy loses and God wins!

4. The Promise Land

Observe therefore all the commands I am giving you today, so that you may have the strength to go in and take over the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, and so that you may live long in the land the Lord swore to your ancestors to give to them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey. The land you are entering to take over is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you planted your seed and irrigated it by foot as in a vegetable garden. But the land you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven.  It is a land the Lord your God cares for; the eyes of the Lord your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end.

Deuteronomy 11:8-12

If God said it, it is already done–a land filled with milk and honey–but there were giants in the land which was a temptation for anxiety and fear.  However, the Israelites had to conquer that spirit of fear in order to enter into their promised land just like we have to.  We either agree with the spirit of fear or we agree with God.  When we agree with God, then will we possess our promised land. Solid faith in God’s promises is how we keep anxiety and fear out of our life.

Final Thoughts

If we allow the spirit of fear to enter, we must renounce it and get it out of our life and homes quickly.

God wants us to come to Him with every concern, need, worry, and care. He wants us to believe in His word, His love for us, and that He will provide for us.

Solid faith in God’s promises is how we keep anxiety and fear out of our life.
