How To Get Free From Fear of Rejection

How To Get Free From Fear of Rejection

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love him, because he first loved us.”

1 John 4:18

There are many types of fear: rejection, failure, loss, lack, etc. Fear is a spirit, and perfect love casts out fear.

1. Rejection and The Fear of Man

This is where it all starts: knowing who we are, whose we are, and learning all about the fear of man. Rejection is rooted in the fear of man. Once we begin to understand all of these truths, the fear of man (rejection) will begin to leave our life.

The more we can break free from the fear of rejection, the more we will step into our purpose from God. The perfect love of God casts out fear. Knowing God, knowing that He loves us, and spending time in His presence will give us confidence.

Gideon was afraid of the enemy and his destiny, but God told him he was not a failure. Regardless if he was the least in Manasseh, God told him he was a mighty man of valor! Knowing who we are in Christ is all part of God’s love. We may not have earned it, but that’s how God sees us.

When David went up against Goliath, he knew he was coming in the name of the Lord. His relationship with God let him know who he was. When everybody around him feared Goliath (man), David ran toward him. David knew who he was, who he belonged to, and he had a covenant: a relationship with God. Going deep with God, learning the love of God, and knowing who we are in God is a weapon against the fear of rejection.

2. Coming Into The Light of His Freedom

“The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captive and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”

Luke 4:18

This scripture is saying we don’t have to live in poverty (lack) all of our life. Unfortunately, poverty gets attacked continuously more than any other subject today. The reason is quite simple; people love money and believe churches and pastors are stealing their money. Along with this belief, they most likely have a religious/poverty mentality, ultimately believing it is God’s will to be poor.

If we have ever been poor, we know it is not God’s will. If we are part of a church, we know the church helps people and does not take people’s money. When it comes to money, some can be twisted in the mind. This is what happened to Judas Iscariot in the Bible. He betrayed Jesus because of money.

We never apologize for the Gospel to the poor. We must not ever apologize for the blessing of God on our life. Poverty can be like a rubber band on our backs. It is constricting, and we need to break that poverty off our life. We could have grown up on welfare (thank God for welfare), but we don’t stay stuck in that mentality.

3. Breaking From Poverty Mentality

God wants to take us and our families to another level. From the Garden of Eden in Genesis to the book of Revelation, God talks about money in a big way. We can’t love money, we can’t worship money, and money will not replace God. But the blessing of the Lord makes a man rich and has no sorrow. Prosperity is God’s will.

God wants to break poverty off of our life. We can come to God poor in spirit, poor in finance, with drug addictions, mental health problems, and anxiety. This is all bondage. This is why poverty is like a rubber band. We can try and work it and break free, but there is always a phobia in the back of our mind which is a spirit of poverty (lack).

You know that belief that creeps up: if things are going well, something wrong will happen? This is a poverty mentality, and let God break that off us today! Instead, we need to tell ourselves something good will happen and break that rubber band that brings us back into poverty (lack). Move forward because the spirit of the Lord is upon us! Jesus came to announce the good news to the poor. Once this is announced, God says to us it’s His will.

By no means is this a get-rich-quick scheme. God wants to prosper us and take care of us. This doesn’t mean we will become a millionaire or a billionaire. This means He wants to supply all our needs and break that poverty off of our life and bring us freedom, release, pardon, and forgiveness.

When we are in bondage to sin and we have made all kinds of mistakes in our life, we’re carrying all of it. We could have been carrying it for years and years, like a secret sin from our childhood or our teenage years, things we never told anybody about. This kind of deep, heavy weight can open up all kinds of evil, sickness, disease, etc.

The good message of the Gospel is all about release, pardon, and forgiveness from all of that bondage we may be carrying, no matter what we might have done. This is the power of the love of God. We have to escape that fear of somebody finding out about our secret. Because who the Son sets free is free indeed. There is a release for us, and there is pardon, forgiveness, and also forgiveness for others who hurt us. Forgiveness is freedom. We have to forgive, forgive, forgive!

Final Thoughts

Forgiveness keeps us out of bondage: past, present, and future.

God’s kind of love is kind, patient, and forgiving.

We receive forgiveness, and we give forgiveness.

Forgiveness is not always easy, but God will give us grace and the strength to walk in forgiveness.
