How To Meditate in God’s Presence

Nobody is out of reach for God to reveal His love. Doesn’t matter how far from Him we are, He will find a way for His love to get to us. When we obey God and give our heart and life to Him, we never know the lives that will be impacted in our future because of our obedience. He has plans for us, and those plans will always be to advance His kingdom here on earth. Plans that will populate heaven!

1. Innate Quest for Life’s Meaning

Why are we here? What is our purpose? These questions chase us relentlessly.  We are all searching for answers. We chase and chase after the world’s answers which draw us into a more meaningless existence. A myriad of questions; however, the one question we all share–and this does not exclude one person–is What is the true meaning of life?  When our journey comes to the intersection of all those questions and the redeeming cross of Jesus Christ, His truth will set us free if we choose that narrow road.  His truth is 100% the true meaning to life here on earth!

2. Victim Mentality

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Jeremiah 29:11

Our one decision to follow after Jesus starts the faith journey. However, it is the decisions we will make in the valleys and challenges that will frame our future. When life does not go the way we thought it would, it is important which decisions we make. In those confusing times, it can feel like our world is crumbling and nothing seems right.

But, it is in these times when we learn how to stand firm on our faith and trust in God.  All the lessons we learn in the valleys and the challenges are building our faith foundation. We trust in God only, no matter what it looks like. We hold onto His plans for our future. They are good plans.

3. Reality of Spiritual Warfare

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6

The truth is when we say “yes” to Jesus, we are saying yes to having a relationship with Him. Often the Lord will use challenges, adversity, disappointment, discouragement, all the consequences of spiritual warfare, etc. as opportunities for us to find Him in a brand new way.

Although, many times during the contradiction of the spiritual warfare against God’s plan and the vision for our life, we may feel like the Israelites in the desert yearning for Egypt: the comfort of our old life regardless of the pain and suffering we endured. It is in these moments we can feel like a victim. This isn’t fair.  I didn’t sign up for this. I didn’t ask for this.  This was not my doing. Yet, here I am in this challenge, in this valley, in this pain. Warning! These tidal waves of emotions can keep you stuck if you let them.

4. God Is In Control

For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family[a] in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Ephesians 3:14-19

When we are in spiritual warfare, we have to have a firm foundation of our faith in the Biblical truth that God is in control of our life!  God is the light in the dark.  He is in the calmness of life and in the chaos of the storm. He will walk us through every circumstance until He brings us to our promised land just the way He showed us it would look like.  

All we have to do is believe in Him, obey, and follow Him no matter what it looks like!  We gather the knowledge and the tools He will provide us for those future plans without questioning His lead.  We learn how to meditate in God’s presence and in silence.  In a position to hear His promises silently spoken over us.  Allow His love to caress us.  Trust His Fatherly Spirit to guide and take care of you.

Final Thoughts

It is not about our life agenda, it is about God’s agenda for our life.

Meditating in God’s presence is a discipline that allows us not only to read, recite, or memorize His truth, but make His truth ours!

Be still and know that He is God.
