Joy Will Come In The Morning
“And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul, each for his sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.”
2 Samuel 30:6
King David is going to battle for God, taking territory and the enemy comes through the back door to attack him. He starts attacking his wife, his children, his finances, even his leaders, and takes all their stuff. David was greatly distressed for his loss but also for the people who spoke of stoning him: his leaders, the men who were battling with him.
1. Personal Betrayal
It is one thing when somebody attacks us and it’s painful. It’s another thing when it’s the people closest to you, those people who were supposed to be there for you. Those people who were supposed to cover us. This feels like a different type of attack.
David had an anointing, and with it he raised his army to become mighty men of war and mighty men of valor! Because of circumstances and warfare, their hearts changed toward their leader David.
2. David’s Strength
Although David was distressed, he strengthened himself in the LORD knowing where to go in tough times. When he was in the middle of nowhere, David knew how to get ahold of the voice of God.
“And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David. And David enquired at the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.”
1 Samuel 30:7-8
When David asked for the ephod, this represented the Word of God. He gets that ephod and begins to seek the Lord for direction and receives it. David received a word from God to pursue his enemy. The word from God that is revealed to us is all we need to get our victory. Without a doubt, we are going to recover all when we allow God to direct us.
The Word of God gives us permission, authority, and it gives us strength. It does not matter what the enemy does. Because all we need is a Word from God and obedience, and we will recover everything the enemy stole from us.
3. Spiritual Warfare
The moment we get our word from God, He directs us, and all hell will break loose! The enemy is afraid of that Word. He knows that Word has the power to recover everything stolen. It has the power to transform everything in our life no matter where the devil’s lodged. Once that word is released, and we obey God, every devil has to give up everything he ever stole from us.
We rise up and dust ourselves off. We cry if we have to, but we get back up because we have a battle to fight. We have cities to win. We have nations to shake. We have captives to set free! Don’t let the devil move us. It is time to live and declare the glory of the Lord.
Pursue is a battle term. David had many losses from the battle and the Word of the Lord came to him saying get up and pursue! God wants to give us back everything we lost in the battle. However, we can’t take back by looking back.
4. Moving Forward
“Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil.”
Ephesians 6:11
The enemy uses a militant structure. Yes, he is defeated and dethroned but he has an army and ranks. This is why God is raising up churches that have order. God wants an army just not in heaven. He wants an army on the earth! We must move forward as God’s army and dispatch and dispel and remove all demonic power in our path.
“For His anger endureth but a moment, and in His favor is life; weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”
Psalm 30:5
We like to talk about the joy in the morning, as we should, that is faith. However, we also have to talk about weeping. God does not bring the weeping; it is the enemy who makes sure he attacks. Some of us want to bypass the weeping to get to the joy, but joy is at the other end of the weeping.
We have to learn to make a comeback when the enemy attacks. When the word of the Lord is revealed, the enemy will attack! We have to learn his strategies, then we can learn how he works, and we can battle smart to move forward in our victory.
Final Thoughts
As we go through battles in life, God will always guide us and give us the strategies we need to overcome.
Take back everything that the enemy has stolen, and don’t look back.
When under an attack, don’t be moved. The King of Kings is on your side and has given you the victory!
