How to be Joyful in the Lord

How to be Joyful in the Lord

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.

Luke 2:10

The birth of Jesus Christ is God’s declaration of joy to the world. Heaven announced His arrival as good news that produces great joy, not temporary happiness but lasting joy rooted in salvation. Jesus came as God in the flesh to redeem humanity and restore our relationship with the Father.

While we may walk through various seasons in life, the truth of Christ never changes. Our joy is anchored in what God has done through Jesus, not in what we see or feel. Because Jesus lives, joy remains available to every believer.

1. The Joy of Jesus

His lord said unto him, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”

Matthew 25:21

Joy does not originate with us. It originates with Jesus. He invites us to enter into His joy, a joy that flows from obedience to the Father and confidence in God’s purposes. This joy is not dependent on circumstances but is rooted in eternal truth.

The joy of the Lord strengthens us to remain faithful, steady, and confident. Even when life brings challenges, His joy empowers us to continue walking in victory and trust.

2. Anointed With the Oil of Gladness

Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

Hebrews 1:9

Jesus was anointed with the oil of gladness and was the perfect example of living His life with joy no matter what He endured through His life.  It was enough joy to forgive all of the hate that ushered Him to that cross. His joy sustained Him through rejection, suffering, and even the cross. This joy was not emotional excitement. It was spiritual strength anchored in obedience and purpose.

As followers of Christ, we share in this anointing. When we walk in righteousness and remain submitted to God, the oil of gladness flows in our lives as well.

3. Joy as a Fruit of the Spirit

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, JOY, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Galatians 5:22-23

Joy is not something we strive to create. It is a fruit produced by the Holy Spirit within us. When Jesus comes into our life, joy becomes available as part of our new nature in Christ.

As we grow spiritually and walk with the Lord through each season, joy matures and strengthens. It remains with us throughout our entire faith journey and leads us faithfully into eternity.

4. The Joy of Our Salvation

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

John 10:10

The joy of the Lord is directly connected to our salvation. Jesus came to give us life that is full, abundant, and eternal. No matter what opposition we face, our salvation is secure in Him.

Because we belong to Christ, joy is our inheritance. As we keep our eyes on Jesus and the life He has given us, His joy will continually lead us forward into every promise God has prepared.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Jesus Christ came into the world as good news that produces great joy. His salvation remains the unshakable foundation of our faith.

The joy of the Lord is our strength and our inheritance as believers. As we abide in Him, that joy grows and carries us faithfully into every promise and into eternal life.

All of the fruits of the spirit including joy can grow and develop as we navigate through the seasons of our life all the way to our promised land, and even into our senior years.
