Secret To A Lasting Legacy
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
Genesis 1:28
When God raises a leader, the work He does in that leader, by building beliefs, values, and practices in them, will serve His divine purpose to produce multiplication and subdue, overcome, and conquer. It’s like a relay race as the baton gets passed down from generation to generation. Just like when Jesus ascended but first handed His baton (the Great Commission) to His disciples before His return to His throne.

1. The Apostles’ Doctrine
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
Acts 2:42
The apostles’ doctrine refers to the foundational teachings and practices that guided the early church—things like fellowship, communion, prayer, and a commitment to living out the truth of God’s Word. These weren’t just traditions; they were spiritual habits that shaped the lives of believers.
But it also points to something deeper: the importance of being under spiritual leadership. The word “apostle” means “sent one.” God uses spiritual leaders—those He sends—to guide, teach, and equip the body of Christ. Even Jesus, though fully God, submitted to the Father and was sent to fulfill His purpose on earth. Likewise, we grow best when we are submitted to godly leadership and follow the example Christ set for us.
2. Submission
But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:6-7
Submission is where discipleship begins and when we learn what it really means to submit. According to the dictionary the meaning of submission is an act of submitting to the authority or control of another. When we submit/follow a leader they will see things in us we don’t see because we all have blind spots. They are leading us to a purposeful and meaningful life.
3. Discipleship
True discipleship starts with personal transformation. When a leader begins discipling others, they quickly realize they can’t lead from theory—they must lead by example. This often exposes areas in their own life that need growth and refinement.
As they dive deeper into God’s Word, they become more aware of their dependence on Him. Pride fades, and humility grows. It becomes clear that apart from God, they can do nothing. This is where real change begins—when the leader allows God to work on their character, crucify the flesh, and shape them into a vessel fit for His purpose.
4. It’s About Surrender
Discipleship isn’t about trying to manage or control people. It’s about surrender—first to God, then to the process of spiritual growth and leadership. Just like you wouldn’t hand over the keys to a Rolls Royce to someone who’s never driven, God doesn’t entrust us with greater responsibility until we’ve been trained and proven faithful.
God builds legacy through leaders who are sent, chosen, and submitted. It begins with honoring the authority He places in our lives. From there, a life of submission and humility follows—not as a sign of weakness, but as the foundation of true spiritual strength.

FINAL THOUGHTS
When God raises a leader, He begins a deep work within them—establishing strong beliefs, godly values, and consistent practices. This foundation equips them to fulfill His purpose, lead with authority, and produce lasting fruit that multiplies, overcomes, and advances His Kingdom.
Every believer needs a sent one—a God-appointed leader who helps guide, model, and equip others toward spiritual maturity and divine purpose.
Discipleship isn’t about controlling others. It’s about surrendering to God’s process, honoring His authority, and becoming a vessel through which His power and legacy flow.
