Step Into The New Year With Faith
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:13-14
We end the year by letting go of yesterday as we embrace this New Year 2026 by faith. Let’s declare, it will be a year of expansion and embracing everything God has for us: a promised-land year!
1. Let Go and Move Forward
“Sing, barren woman, you who never bore a child; burst into song, shout for joy, you who were never in labor; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband,” says the Lord. “Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes. For you will spread out to the right and to the left; your descendants will dispossess nations and settle in their desolate cities.
Isaiah 54:1-3
We are going to grow in every area of our life this year. But we can’t move forward and expand unless we truly let go of certain things. This is not the time to hold back, it is a time to forget what is behind in the area of our past sins, failures, mistakes, and confess and repent them to the Lord. Then we allow the grace of God and the blood of Jesus Christ to forgive and cleanse us so we can start this New Year fresh. By doing this, we are making room for expansion and growth.
2. Live in Freedom
Yes, repentance is very important on this faith journey; however, it does not end there. We never want to keep living in a cycle of past sins, failures, and mistakes. We want to live in a cycle of freedom from these certain things. This is when changes and adjustments must come into play in our lives so we can begin living in a cycle of God’s blessings. The enemy does his part when we yield to his voice and sin. Then he accuses us, putting shame and guilt. This is when we are to confess and repent and not allow shame and guilt to capture us. This is how we attain freedom from the destructive cycle of past sins, failures, and mistakes so we can move forward toward our promised land.
3. There is No Future in Our Past
The temptation of holding on to the past will only bring frustration, oppression, and depression into our life. Don’t carry that kind of baggage into any New Year. We can’t begin to move forward when we are holding onto our past. We begin to move forward when we let go and allow the grace of God to guide us into a future of hope, patience, and true peace from God.
4. Identify the Sin
If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.
James 4:17
James 4:17 reminds us that when we know what is right and choose not to do it, that is where sin begins. This is not about listing failures but about allowing God’s truth to guide our hearts, thoughts, and decisions, and keep us aligned with His Word. Instead of focusing on weakness, we fix our attention on God’s Word and let it lead our thoughts and actions. When we meditate on Scripture and walk in obedience, God brings clarity, strength, and success into our lives, just as He promised in Joshua 1:8.
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Joshua 1:8
FINAL THOUGHTS
As we step into this New Year, we choose faith over the past and obedience over hesitation. God calls us forward, and His grace empowers us to walk into everything He has prepared.
When we fix our hearts on His Word and trust His leading, we make room for growth, freedom, and lasting fruit. This is a year to press on with confidence, knowing God is faithful to complete what He has begun.
We move forward with faith, grounded in His promises, and expectant of a future filled with His goodness and peace.
