The Power of Prayer
Salvation is a product of prayer because somebody sought God and prayed for us. Nothing happens except by way of prayer. Prayer takes us out of our world and brings us into God’s world. Our world is full of pain, suffering, fear, lack, struggle, sickness, poverty, etc. God’s world is full of vision, purpose, healing, miracles, supernatural provision, and a life more abundantly.
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
John 10:10

1. Developing A Life of Prayer
We start where we are as we begin developing our prayer life. In truth, prayer is our intimate time with God which shapes our relationship with Him. We make it a daily priority, and as we begin with just a few minutes of prayer until we can develop into an hour or even two hours as our relationship with Him matures. Prayer is a fundamental and essential necessity of our faith journey.
2. Substance of Prayer
Of course, prayer is our alone, intimate time with God where we express our honor, gratefulness, praise, worship, and we build our relationship with Him. However, it is also our time to bring our supplications, appeals, and our petitions to His throne. These can either focus on our needs or the needs of the people in our lives: our loved ones, friends, etc.
3. The Secret Place
But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
Matthew 6:6
We have to pray, but we first have to have a place where we go to pray. This is a private place where there are no distractions. Of course, that place will depend upon our current living arrangements. If we live in a crowded home, our private place may be in our car, the garage, backyard, restroom, etc. If space is not our obstacle, then our bedroom can be our private place or even a prayer closet. There are many location options we can choose from. The important thing is we find a private place to pray so we can spend time with God.
4. A Promise And Prayer
A prayer without a promise has no effect because God’s promises and prayer go together. When we have a problem or a need, then we must find a promise in God’s Word and take that promise into prayer, standing on that promise until it shows up in our life. No matter what our situation is, there is power in prayer. This is where we counter-attack the enemy with our authority over him. That authority that was given to us when our Lord Jesus conquered the enemy on that cross. This authority is our promise to defeat and conquer the enemy for every situation, every supplication, every appeal, and petition in prayer.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Nothing happens except by way of prayer.
A prayer without a promise has no effect because God’s promises and prayer go together.
