What Is My Number One Purpose In Life?

What Is My Number One Purpose In Life?

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 28:18-19

Again and again they put God to the test; they vexed the Holy One of Israel.”

Psalm 78:41

This scripture–The Great Commission–can be considered as the last will and testament of Jesus Christ. The weight this scripture carries is what Christianity is all about. All authority that Adam lost in the Garden of Eden, Jesus took it all back. This authority is for all His believers: victory over death, hell, every bondage, sickness, and every sin.

1. To Walk In Authority

The authority Jesus won on that cross was His purpose, objective, and assignment from the Father.  The assignment was for Him to transfer that authority to all that believe in His name (you and I).  We are to take that authority to conquer in every area of our life, live in victory, and walk by faith in the finished work of Christ. This authority was also marching orders for all believers to go into the highways and the byways to save souls and make disciples of all nations–to spread the gospel of hope to a fallen world.

2. To Preach the Gospel

How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!”

Romans 10:14

The Great Commission cannot be performed until we first get somebody saved which is the responsibility of every born-again Christian.  We first have to win souls then disciple them.  The moment we decide we are too busy to save souls and make disciples, we are too busy for The Great Commission and we step out of the will of God for our lives. Evangelism is all about giving an opportunity for the non-believer to hear the Gospel.  Healing our broken hearts, prospering financially, being set free from the bondage of our past, etc. are all vital for our Christian walk; however, they are results that should make us more effective to perform The Great Commission.

3. To Recognize the Distractions

We have to make sure evangelism is not overlooked by the distractions of this busy life. We have to always keep our focus on the main thing: soul winning.  We are in a relay race and Jesus first handed the baton to the disciples, then that baton has been handed down from generation to generation all the way to you and me today.  We are the light of the world. Keep your focus on The Great Commission always.

Disciple making also requires a kind of change that will challenge everything about our life. A change that requires sacrifice and discipline, but we have to be sold out to God to become a soul winner and a disciple maker. So keep the end-goal in front of you and don’t let the enemy distract you from walking in your purpose.

4. To Live For Eternity

Eternity, heaven, and hell are all real.  When we preach the Good News to somebody that is lost and they give Jesus their heart to Jesus, their decision will echo into eternity.  Not only will it affect their life here on earth, but it will go with them into eternity and their name will be written in the Book of Life. Our life on earth is just a vapor, but eternity will go on forever and ever. Remember this: we are snatching people from going to hell and bringing them into eternal life in heaven.

Final Thoughts

Take the authority Jesus gave you to conquer in every area of your life, live in victory, and walk by faith in the finished work of Christ.

The Great Commission cannot be performed until we first get somebody saved which is the responsibility of every born-again Christian.

Keep the end-goal in front of you and don’t let the enemy distract you from walking in your purpose.

Our life on earth is just a vapor, but eternity will go on forever and ever.
