The Privilege of Serving God

The Privilege of Serving God

“Since you did not serve the Lord your God with joy and a cheerful heart, in gratitude for the abundance of all things…”

Deuteronomy 28:47

Affection and gratitude is an expression of love. Let us not get too overfamiliar with what God has already done for us by failing to thank Him daily and constantly. Let us praise God today on our journey for where we are headed tomorrow as we maintain an attitude of gratitude!

1. Significance of Memorials

It is important to keep in remembrance the good things God has already done for us.  Memorials, whatever shape and form they may be, are tangible reminders of what God has done.  They help us fortify our heart of gratitude, and what is in our heart will flow out and everywhere we go.  It will affect our relationships, our decisions, and our emotions.  We serve the Lord with joy and a cheerful heart in gratitude!

2. Generosity to God

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:21

We never want to feel that serving God is a burden.  This is why we must maintain a heart of gratitude and a heart of generosity in our giving whether it is with our finances, our time, or our talent.  It is an honor and it is a privilege to serve God.  We love God with all of our heart, with all of our mind, and with all of our strength.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6

3. Our Affection

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:16

Whatever we give our attention to, we will have affection for.  This is why we never forget the goodness of God in our life.  We never want to put other things before Him and risk losing our affection for Him and for His house.  We always put God first in every area of our life.  This is true surrender.  We give Him our life because He gave us His.

4. Enjoyment of God’s Abundance

As for the rich in this present world, instruct them not to be conceited and arrogant, nor to set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly and ceaselessly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

1 Timothy 6:17

Of course, God wants us to enjoy our life. He wants to give us the desires of our heart: our hopes and our dreams. However, what He does not want is for us to put those desires before Him.  We keep Him first in our life, first in our day, first in our finances, first in our everything.  We keep Him our priority in everything we do.
